Chaparral Hall Science Building

California State University, Northridge | Completed: 2009

About this project

The facility houses research laboratories for the departments of Biology, Biochemistry and Geological Sciences, teaching laboratories for Biology along with computation labs and core facilities including a vivarium. This program consolidates and expands the University’s undergraduate biology and mathematic programs into one state-of-the-art facility which includes atmospheric research labs and a trace metal lab. The building is comprised of two distinctive clusters that separate research from teaching facilities. Faculty offices link the two clusters creating communal and collaborative space. A four-story outdoor lobby and plaza as well as an outdoor public staircase facilitate circulation to teaching labs on the upper floors.
