The focus of the research at Janelia Farm is a wide range of biochemistry, computational biology, bioengineering, chemistry and developmental activities. The building will support collaborative research, allowing HHMI Scientists from other institutions to work together on collaborative projects. The building is planned to be the most advanced research facility in the country, providing Investigators the tools necessary for their projects. The laboratories are planned around open research space using mostly dry bench, instrument intensive space, supported on by closed support space. All the primary and support laboratories are designed using a generic, science based approach for the greatest level of flexibility.
