Laboratory and Laboratory Support Space for a Pest Quarantine and Containment Research Facility that will strengthen California’s Agricultural Plant Pest and Disease Prevention Program. The laboratory functions are grouped together by biosafety level around a central hub of decontamination. This BSL3 Laboratory Space consists of Greenhouses, a Plant Growth Room, Insect Rearing Rooms, Plant Biology, Insectary and Nematology. Support Spaces include an Equipment Room, Digital Imaging, Tissue Culture Air Lock and Decontamination Rooms. Specific Research Projects for the laboratory will include the study and screening of potential natural enemies of pest species, genetic engineering of organisms that are more effective antagonists of pests, and the evaluation of organisms and genetically engineered plants.
