Rick Heinz joined RFD as a Principal in 1985 after 5 years of traditional architectural practice. He has placed a personal career emphasis on the design of academic research buildings and instructional science facilities for private and public institutions.  At RFD, Rick has been the Principal in Charge on over 200 significant projects throughout the U.S. In 2010, Rick was elevated to the AIA College of Fellows, an honor awarded to members of the American Institute of Architects who have made contributions of national significance to the profession. Rick has spoken at more than 70 conferences nationwide on laboratory planning topics. His professional affiliations include the Society for College and University Planning, Tradeline, and Project Kaleidoscope / Learning Spaces Collaboratory, for which he has contributed to publications that are recognized standards in the undergraduate STEM community.
