Falling Leaves Foundation Medical Innovation Building

University of California, Irvine (UCI) | Completed: 2025

About this project

The Falling Leaves Foundation Medical Innovation Building is a state-of-the-art facility advancing UCI’s leadership in basic, translational, and clinical research. It expands the campus’s global impact in cross-disciplinary teaching and research, strengthening the Health Sciences District as a nationally recognized hub for collaborative scientific discovery. This six-story, 257,110 GSF building is one of the largest interdisciplinary research hubs on the West Coast, with a project-driven focus on medical innovation. Laboratory spaces include wet and damp labs of varying fume hood and equipment densities, core labs, flexible support spaces, a vivarium with centralized cage wash and dedicated loading dock, and research offices. Public spaces are designed to foster collaboration between research groups and disciplines, connecting activities horizontally across floors and vertically between levels to break down silos.
