About this project
19,100 NSF of laboratory and laboratory support space in a 82,600 GSF building to accommodate two existing Department of Energy research programs: The Joint Genome Institute (JGI) and the Systems Biology Knowledgebase (KBase). The new four-story building houses approximately 330 scientist and visitors and is targeted to achieve LEED Gold certification. Sustainability concepts have been integrated into all aspects of facility siting and design (including structural and mechanical design). The narrow massing of the building allows for light harvesting and minimizing the energy requirements for lighting the building.
