About this project
The new 106,023 square foot three story Science, Engineering, and Mathematics Building (SEM) houses the departments of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geology and Engineering. The 40,024 Net Square Foot of laboratory space includes teaching laboratories for General Biology, Anatomy/Physiology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Intro to Physics, Advanced Physics for Mechanics/Electricity/Optics, Astronomy, Principles of Engineering, Oceanography and Geology. These teaching laboratories are supported by associated prep and storage spaces that also includes an aquatics perp laboratory for the Biology Department. The Geology teaching laboratory is located on the ground level with capability to open up out to the center courtyard via large sliding doors creating an outdoor classroom for field geology. The facility also accommodates lecture/classrooms, faculty offices, and a uniquely designed Immersive Digital Classroom (IDC) that also is a planetarium.
