Macelwane Science Building Renovation

Description
32,072 NSF of laboratory and laboratory support space in a 84,833 GSF building for the Departments of Biology and Chemistry. The project included a complete gut and renovation of the existing Macelwane Hall after a fire caused significant smoke and water damage throughout the building. Teaching laboratories include Principles of Biology, Principles of Chemistry, Molecular/Cell Biology, Microbiology/Immunology, Organismal Biology, and Physiology. Research Laboratories are designed on a modular basis with flexible benching systems and mobile casework to facilitate reconfiguration for changes in personnel, programs, technology and equipment. Each research laboratory has adjacent Research Student Write-up spaces and multiple internal Special Purpose Rooms to accommodate research-specific needs such as Imaging/Microscopy, Tissue Culture, Controlled Environments, etc. Laboratory Support spaces include Collections, Aquatics, Vivarium, Freezer Farm, Plant Growth Suite, Prep Rooms, Glasswash/Autoclave, and Instrumentation Rooms.
